History of Middle Creek Ranch

The idea of a multifamily-owned recreational ranch at Middle Creek in Blanco County was first conceived in 1983 by Ronnie Moore and Sonny Sowell. It was patterned in part after several hunting lodges they had developed in south Texas, the difference being a family-oriented outdoor recreation ranch instead of a hunting operation. Today the ranch property is approximately 450 acres of breathtaking beauty.  There is a 45 acre lake on the property which is the largest private body of water in Blanco County.

The ranch was initially set up as a limited partnership with 19 full partners with a general partnership that functioned as the managing partner. No group or corporate memberships were included. House design and siting of the buildings on the bluff overlooking the creek, as well as placement of the tennis courts, pool and skeet range were carried out by Ronnie Moore’s father, an architect.

With construction completed, the ranch opened in the fall of 1984 and was an immediate success. The husband and wife team of Bob and Jan Doddridge provided cooking, housekeeping, groundskeeping and maintenance. A tradition of good meals was begun and has continued with a succession of cooks after the Doddridges left in 1990. The party barn proved to be a superb venue for country western dances with a band playing from the loft.

Additional uses for the ranch became apparent as partners brought out small groups of guests. In the early years, there was an annual party for all partners and up to four guest couples per partner. Individual partners began having large parties and birthday celebrations as well as wedding events and family reunions at the ranch. A set of clear rules was developed to achieve a reasonable compromise between preserving individual partner access to the ranch and allowing families to use the entire facility for private parties or family reunions. At no time has the ranch been used for events not hosted by a partner.

Today, all of our partners enjoy relaxing and hosting friends and family our our ranch!
